The Department of Sport Science at Nottingham Trent University is seeking applications for five Academic Associate positions, each comprising five years teaching (0.5 FTE) and five years Ph.D. study (0.5 FTE). The following pertains to the sociology of sport position:

  • Position: Academic Associate, Sociology of Sport
  • Ph.D. Title: A Sociological Study of Genetic Health and Fitness Testing
  • Location: Nottingham Trent University, Clifton Campus
  • Salary: Grade G, £27,83 – £32,236 (0.5 FTE)
  • Closing date: 06/02/2019
  • Start date: Ideally before September 30, 2019; to be discussed with the successful candidate

Applications are encouraged from students with an interest and background in the sociologies of sport, health, exercise, the body, and/or science and technology, as well as related disciplines and fields. The specific project you will be undertaking explores the emergence and ramifications of genetic health and fitness testing, with a focus on how users interpret the insights they receive from testing companies, and on bioethical issues raised in the process of commodifying, collating, storing, advising upon, and acting upon one’s genetic health and fitness data.
